About Laura Brookbank Sudkamp
Laura Brookbank Sudkamp brings thirty-five years of forensic science expertise to Forensic Management Strategies. Her career spans bench-level casework, laboratory management, grant writing and administration, research, and executive leadership within state government.
Most recently, Laura served as Laboratory System Director for the Kentucky State Police Division of Forensic Services, where she oversaw six laboratories and 145 employees conducting analysis in toxicology, controlled substances, firearms and toolmarks, forensic biology, and trace evidence. She was responsible for resource allocation, quality assurance, and serving as a liaison to legislators, judges, prosecutors, and law enforcement on forensic science matters.
Prior to her director role, Laura managed the KSP Central Laboratory Branch, supervised a federally funded marijuana research initiative through the Appalachian HIDTA program, and worked as a forensic chemist handling high-volume drug casework with testimony in hundreds of state and federal court proceedings.
Laura holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the University of Kentucky and completed the Forensic Management Academy through West Virginia University’s Center for Executive Education. She is a current member of the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors (ASCLD), where she also served as President from 2020–2023.
